Mid Century Modern Furniture is so beautifully designed it it not only a concept it is a way of life. The designs and elements of mid century modern furniture is a style that will never go away. The Modern designs from the 30′s are still being remade today. When looking for Mid Century designs it is not hard to spot. With there sleek lines and amazing details it will always catch your eye.
Light colored woods such as Teak is a very popular wood in Danish Modern Furniture. Most pieces of mid century modern Interior design has this wood or light colored woods. Heywood Wakefield’s designs used these woods in many of his pieces including the Aristocrat Chair and its entire collection of pieces. When designing modern furniture there are also other materials used, ones that are more man made. Such as Plastic or Plexi-Glass which can be used in very sleek designs. Also Fiberglass or Stainless Steel. Plexi Glass was used allot in the 40′s- 1970′s. The Danish had a very large part in the influence of Modern Furniture. Which now people refer to as Danish Modern Furniture. Teak and Light Maple woods were also used in many Danish Designs so the pieces always look warm and inviting.
One very known Danish Designer is Arne Jacobsen, one of his more popular designs is the Egg or Swan Chairs which were designed in 1958. There are also so many textures and colors in Modern Furniture, from Leather to Fabrics. From very serene colors like white and cream to bright bold colors like red. Allot of the vintage influences had very vibrant and crazy patterns. Alot of times you can find Vintage Modern Furniture with the original fabrics. Which is always nice depending on how well they’ve been taken care of. Or another option is to get them re-upholstered with some funky fabric which can always be found at IKEA. Most Modern Designers have an outlook that will brighten and make your home stand out. There designs last a lifetime and beyond. This style will never go out. Pieces that have stuck around like the ones we’ve already talked about from Heywood Wakefield to Eames Era Furniture. These items are very well known and well sought out!! Most collectors like to have the real vintage piece not a reproduction so they will tend to pay more when buying the real thing.
Simplicity is very common in Mid Century Modern Furniture. Thats why there is allot of White used in these designs. It makes you feel very calm and relaxed. Very inviting. Acrylic or Plexi Glass Furniture is very popular too. There are many designers that are making it again and was very popular in the 60′s and 70′s. The Vintage designs are getting harder and harder to find. They are amazing and very well crafted. Florence Knoll and Herman Miller were two designers that created some of these wonderful Masterpieces. They also used Molded Plastic. Florence Knolls Egg Chair is a perfect example that we talked about earlier.
These designers are endless, there are so many wonderful ones it is so hard to choose from. You can pick up so many magazines and it is evident that Modern Furniture is very popular. The designs of homes and the interior seem to be pushing toward now more than ever to Mid Century Modern Designs. This shows that the designs are here to stay and will never go out of style.
